Jardim do Mar Main Church - built in the 19th century

Parish Church of Our Lady of the Rosary

On November 15, 1734, a curate was created in the parish of Jardim do Mar, based in the existing Chapel of Nossa Senhora do Rosário, which was entirely rebuilt in 1786.

Later, parish priest César Martinho Fernandes began the construction of a new church with the same patron saint, which was blessed on September 19, 1907 by Bishop D. Manuel Agostinho Barreto.

The Jardim do Mar Church, dedicated to Our Lady of the Rosary, was built between 1906 and 1907 on the ruins of the original 16th-century chapel. The person responsible for this work of architecture was the parish priest of Jardim do Mar, Padre César Martinho Fernandes, who with the help of the people, men and women, managed to build this church without the help of public money.

The style of this Church is the Gothic style, a revivalist Gothic, being a smaller scale replica of the Notre Dame de Paris cathedral, 18th century. XX. The Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary takes place in this parish on October 7th.

Roses Mill

Moinho das Roseiras is located in Sítio das Roseiras, at the beginning of the path that connects Jardim do Mar to Prazeres.

Although there is no record of the date of its construction, it is known that its owners were José Maria Ferreira and his wife Maria Leopoldina Sumares Ferreira.

As Jardim do Mar is, and has always been, rich in water, which was not the case in neighboring parishes (Paul do Mar and Estreito da Calheta), the mill worked throughout the year, even until its owner slept in the mill and October until Christmas, such was the request to grind wheat by people in his parish and surrounding areas.

After the death of José Maria Ferreira (1955), the mill continued to operate for a few more years, but with the passage of time and the scarcity of wheat, the mill stopped working.

In 2005, it was donated to the parish council by his heirs, now listed as heritage of the parish of Jardim do Mar.
